Every canoe should have two of our 12' nylon painter ropes with eye splices anchored firmly to both deck thwarts both for convenience and safety. The eye splice loop allows the painter to be securely fastened to the deck thwart when in use, but can be removed in about 2 seconds without undoing any knots if you want to use the rope in camp. These painters are both a very convenient and functional addition to a tripping canoe. They are standard equipment on all of our restorations and new canoes. With a breaking strength of 300 lb you can anchor your canoe to your car with them while maintaining peace of mind.
